September 14, 21 and 28 at 8 p.m.

Mahou Premium Light

Acoustic Space is a music series featuring national and international artists that show the various facets of contemporary musical creation. Through this series, Museo Reina Sofía, in collaboration with Mahou and its program Afterwork by Mahou Premium Light, enables audiences to get to know new conceptions of jazz, electronic music derivations and the radical eclecticism that characterises today's music, as well as the points of contact between the classical music tradition and the popular tradition, the boundaries of which are becoming less and less defined.

For this edition, Acoustic Space #2, guest artists include Mastretta, a now classic formation of the composer, arranger and producer Nacho Mastretta, in the form of a sextet; Lonely Drifter Karen, a trio that plays luminous, nostalgic pop, led by the Austrian Tanja Frinta; and the artist Oy, from Ghana but now living in Switzerland, who will show the eclectic blend of pop, soul, sound experimentation and voice improvisation that have placed her in a very short time at the forefront of the international scene.

Mastretta

Nacho Mastretta is a musician, composer and music producer who was born in Barcelona in 1964. After studying at the Jesús de Monasterio conservatory in Santander, in the 1980s he became part of the group Las manos de Orlac, and it was 1998 when he founded the band Mastretta, with the release ofHighballito, in the company of Ricardo Moreno, Miguel Malla and Pablo Novoa.
Since its founding, Mastretta has evolved as a set of multiple personalities that revolve around the figure of Nacho Mastretta but who have their own space for their own individual sound. On this occasion they will be playing as a sextet.

Lonely Drifter Karen

Lonely Drifter Karen is a musical project born of the union of three musicians of very different origins and evolution. Started by the Austrian composer Tanja Frinta in 2003, the group was completed with the Italian drummer Giorgio Fausto and the Spanish pianist Marc Meliá. Their music brings together influences from the folk scene of the Nordic countries, references to cabaret sounds, chanson française and British pop, and manages to unify in perfect harmony the delicate and nostalgic voice of Tanja Frinta with the multi-instrumental arrangements that characterise her compositions. Their concert at Museo Reina Sofía will feature their most recent album, released in 2010, called Fall Of Spring.

OY

Oy was born in Ghana in 1978 but has lived in Switzerland since she was little. With her recently-published first album, First Box Then Walk, Oy is a promising artist whose music is characterised by the combination of vocal and instrumental resources used in live performances.  Her songs are small stories built bit by bit with the use of a sampler, the main element of her sound propositions. Voices from the American soul tradition, hip-hop sounds, passages with vocal improvisation and spoken word, all come together for a unique exercise in eclecticism and experimentation.
