The L.A. Films section, curated by Berta Sichel and Julieta Roitman, consists of six feature-length and short films, both historical and contemporary, in which the city of Los Angeles transcends its subsidiary function as the setting for many Hollywood films to become a legitimate motif in the film.
Video Art in Los Angeles (1970-1984) presents 24 pieces from the Getty Research Institute collection, selected by curator Glenn Phillips. Organised around three thematic programmes, this cycle includes work by a series of artists who, drawing on new aesthetic perspectives and a form of political expression related to criticism of the mass media, gave fresh impetus to the video art being produced in Los Angeles during the 1970s and first half of the 1980s.
Kenneth Anger. Cinematic Magician is a retrospective, curated by the art historian Joseph Jacobs, on one of the most innovative filmmakers of the 20th century, whose pulp magazine, fetishist and homoerotic imagery has had a determining influence on cult film and music video aesthetics.
