Being Part of Everything
Encounter on Inclusive Education
The Museo Reina Sofía organises an encounter devoted to inclusive education understood as a process of learning and co-existence. The session begins with the premiere of the documentary Quererla es crearla (To Want Is to Create, 2022), by Cecilia Barriga, and continues with a debate on the transformations inclusive education can bring about in the context of museums and their teaching programmes.
Inclusive pedagogy is an educational method which entails catering equally to the needs of everyone in childhood, adolescence and adulthood, being mindful of cases in which there is a risk of social exclusion. Inclusive education teaches us to live alongside people with different physical and mental capacities, with rigid study plans or a lack of public funding in accessibility among the obstacles that have stopped an inclusive and equal system from becoming a reality.
Through her film, Cecilia Barriga takes a direct and conversational approach to the ambitions of Wanting Is Believing, an association under the same name made up of families looking for legal recognition for inclusive education across Spain, and pursues equality above any form of disability prejudice. After the screening, families committed to this educational model will participate in a debate with the film-maker, teachers and members of the Museo’s Education Area.
