To mark International Museum Day, the Museo Reina Sofía welcomes a piece awarded first prize in the 2015 Madrid Choreography Competition: the dance piece entitled …Eran casi las dos (…It Was Nearly Two O’clock), created by Carmen Fumero and Miguel Ballabriga. The work cinematographically stages a brief story that occurs when “it was nearly two o’clock” and two people – a man who is waiting and a woman who is about to arrive – have arranged to meet each other, although both have very different intentions.
Carmen Fumero is a choreographer and performer, and currently directs her own company. She previously worked for the campaigns I+D Danza, directed by Ana Beatriz Alonso (2005–2012), Sharon Friedman’s Projects in Movement (2008–2011) and the Daniel Abreu Company in the production Negro. At the present time, she continues to develop her career as a performer for Iker Arrue’s Ai-Do Project and Antonio Ruz’s company.
Miguel Ballabriga introduced himself to the theatre world in 2009 when as a dancer he joined the company Dani Pannullo DanceTheatre, with which he has worked on various projects in Spain, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Mexico and India. He is currently developing his career as a dancer in other projects alongside young choreographers.
In 2014, both Carmen Fumero and Miguel Ballabriga undertook a residency in the Teatros del Canal, which resulted in the piece ...Eran casi las dos, which premiered at the Festival de Danza Canarios Dentro y Fuera (The Canary Islands Inside and Out Dance Festival), in Tenerife, and in 2015 it won first prize at the II Distrito de Tetuán Choreography Competition, and first prize at the 29th Choreography Competition in Madrid.
