The Museo Reina Sofía, alongside the Wikimedia España Association, seeks to incorporate Wikipedia’s philosophy of shared knowledge into different modes of making and rethinking the museum. Within the framework of this collaboration, the publishing workshop The History of the Lavapiés Neighbourhood on Wikipedia is organised with a collaborative network of neighbourhood collectives and associations from Madrid’s Lavapiés area.

The point of departure of the proposal is the dissemination of the history of Lavapiés and its residents, compiling and contributing to new entries on Wikipedia to create a historical archive on the neighbourhood. Upon carrying out the workshop in the Asociación de Vecinos de La Corrala (The La Corrala Neighbourhood Association), and in collaboration with collectives situated in the area, the aim is to produce histories which are distanced from unilateral perspectives and which foster collective dialogue. Moreover, the activity is oriented towards offering the necessary tools and methodologies to develop autonomy and emancipation in generating shared and open knowledge.
