Leap into the Void is an activity for adults and children following the path forged by various artists from the late 1950s onwards which enabled them to shake off the limitations set down by the picture plane. Beginning with Lucio Fontana’s slashed canvases as a metaphor for this breaking away, and using dynamics and resources lifted from circus arts, participants are invited to pass through the picture surface and discover new horizons of creative possibilities.

The activity enables participants to share the ‘leap’ that these artists made when they incorporated not just new materials and art formats but most importantly new areas of thought and creation (the street and all that happens in it), and a new core protagonist: the spectator and his or her own actions, both in the configuration of the piece and in its completion.

These proposals are dealt with by circus artists who work with various circus forms such as acrobatics, clowning, magic and the Troublewit, to create interaction between the public and the works of Fontana, Gil J Wolman, François Dufrêne, Yves Klein and Öyvind Fahlström.
