Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine
The Museo Reina Sofía presents, in a collaboration with the Oslo Biennial (2019–2024), Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine, by choreographer Mette Edvardsen, a project in which people from different countries learn books of their choice by heart. Together they form a library collection of “living books” which, at stipulated points, are available to the public in the form of individual encounters from which to recite what has been learned to a visitor.

Performance lecture: The Living Museum and Laboratory
The transdisciplinary collective Mapa Teatro explores the mechanisms that build history, myth and fiction. Their theatre pieces, halfway between installations and new dramaturgies, dissect the violence which has so dominated Colombian society in recent years and dismantle the imaginaries created by colonial reason. In conjunction with the unveiling of the exhibition Of Lunatics, or Those Lacking Sanity, inside the Fissures Programme framework, Mapa Teatro will present a twofold laboratory comprising a guided tour around the show in the morning and an encounter later in the day with José Antonio Sánchez, an Art History lecturer from the Fine Arts Faculty at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Cuenca) and theorist whose work centres on the relationship between performing and visual arts. The program will be completed with the performance lecture The Living Museum on 4 April 2019.

Choreographer and performer Cuqui Jerez (Madrid, 1973) forms part of the line-up for the 36th Autumn Festival courtesy of a stage laboratory she has been developing since June of this year with the support of the Community of Madrid and the Museo Reina Sofía. The project will come to a close in November with the mise en scène of The Ultrathings in the Protocol Room of the Sabatini Building

Dora García. Second Time Around
Programme of performances*
The exhibition devoted to Dora García (Valladolid, 1965) is accompanied by a specific programme of performances by the artist. Carried out during the exhibition period, this initiative seeks to vindicate performance as a privileged medium, moving closer to the core strands in García’s work. In this vein, three main ideas will be illuminated: fiction as a construction of situations, readings understood as a collective process which redefines works and the relationships between readers, and narration as a critical exercise in terms of the roles undertaken. Ultimately, these ideas stress how the capacity for giving form, transforming and dismantling accounts that pass through us is an action of resistance.

The Words of Others
A Literary Collage of León Ferrari
The Museo Reina Sofía presents The Words of Others by Argentinean artist León Ferrari (Buenos Aires, 1923–2013), a collage he produced between 1965 and 1967, the year it was released by the Argentinean publishing house Falbo. On this occasion, the piece will be performed in full for the first time in Spanish. In the two days leading up to the rendering of this literary collage, and in order to update the issues running through it, the international seminar A Theatre of the Present. Rhetoric and Power in León Ferrari’s The Words of Others, co-organised by Museo Reina Sofía and ARTEA, will be held in the Museo.

Laibach. We Forge The Future
Within the framework of the exhibition NSK from Kapital to Capital. Neue Slowenische Kunst. An Event of the Final Decade of Yugoslavia, the Museo Reina Sofía presents We Forge The Future, a performance by the industrial rock band Laibach, who formed in 1980 and is one of three landmark groups making up the Slovenian collective NSK (Neue Slowenische Kunst). The performance will be preceded by a guided tour of the exhibition led by Laibach member Ivan Novak.

Congresso Internacional Extraordinário dos Críticos de Arte, 1959
In Brazil, in 1959, the International Congress of Art Critics was held, a symposium where artists, architects, art and architectural historians were brought together to debate the role of modernity in a new world surfacing in the post-war period. This new reading of the minutes sets out to activate the document, understood as a performative exercise of a past utopian episode that still has huge potency and resonates in a present time in which art history and critique have been displaced from their role and public influence.

Hito Steyerl. Eye Explosion and Kassem Mosse. Combat Zones that See
This double performance serves as an introduction to the Hito Steyerl retrospective in the Museo. The studied disappearance of the image in modern surveillance technology is developed in a performance lecture by the artist, followed by an exploration into the new acoustic landscape of war – between military noise and sounds from consumer devices - by Kassem Mosse. Both performances are a posthumous homage to Harun Farocki.

After organising activities with Merce Cunningham and Simone Forti, the Museo presents the choreographer and dancer Steve Paxton (USA, 1939), a central figure in the development of contemporary dance and the creator of contact improvisation. On this occasion Bound, a solo devised by Paxton, will be performed, for the first time in Spain, by the dancer Jurij Konjar, who will also hold a workshop.

Performing Gender is a European project that takes a critical look at the politics of gender and sexuality using dance and performance tools. Bodies and their multiple gender inscriptions are the subject of exploration and experimentation by a group of artists that, over the course of one year, have carried out their research by touring around different European institutions.

There is no other poetry than action
The new direction taken by political and social happenings in recent years has once again made public space an excellent place for manifestations by the community. In contrast with the situation during the last third of the 20th century, dissident action does not avoid urban spectacularization, hiding in private or clandestine spheres. Instead it transforms and is shown in public space. This seminar explores the use of “theatrical” gestures, behaviours and performances in social space for the purpose of expressing disagreement and dissidence, and it also examines the way that today's art, specifically theatre, has taken in and dialogued with these non-artistic theatricalities.

Traces of El Periférico de Objetos
El Periférico de Objetos is a theatre group with a dramaturgical style capable of conjuring up the trauma, fear and collective unconscious of the Argentine dictatorship. With both the doll and its manipulator playing a prominent role, its dramatic works, in allusion to Antonin Artaud, Witold Gombrowicz or Heiner Müller, explore the return and liberation of a repressed body. This performance reflects the importance of El Periférico and engages in a dialogue with the exhibition Losing the human form.

Spoken Exhibition is an alternative history of Polish art since 1960, a history that tells about the creation of art institutions, the major exhibitions and the art gestures that have determined the specificity of a post-communist era. It is presented as a cross between performance art and narrative that is reinterpreted and reread in every new context in which it takes place.

Divisor. A Lygia Pape performance
To mark the occasion of the exhibition Lygia Pape. Espacio imantado, there will be a performance of the artist's piece Divisor, in which audience participation plays a vital role. With Divisor, Pape wanted to create a collective work that could be repeated even when she was not present.
