Space D is an exhibition space in which the Museo Reina Sofía Library holds small documentary shows related to contemporary art. The space, opened in 2012, has been gradually evolving to operate in three capacities: one, as a place of reflection enabling greater depth to research into and knowledge of different bibliographical and document-based collections housed in the Museo, developing different narratives and myriad perspectives; two, as a place of dissemination devoted to recovering, approaching and granting visibility to the documentary legacy safeguarded by the institution; and three, as a point of convergence between the Library and other spaces, strengthening, complementing and integrating different initiatives and activities organised in the Museo.

Located on Floor 0 of the Nouvel Building, where the Library can also be found, it has free public access and the same opening times as the Library, but does not require a user card and with access requested at Reception. Lockers are available for personal belongings and users will receive an access card which must be returned upon leaving.

The Library organises guided tours around these documentary exhibitions, which are part of the programme The Magnetised Needle.
