In Postcapital Archive, Daniel García Andújar (Almoradí, Alicante, 1966) surveys the historical, social and economic situation in the wake of two events with a global impact: the fall of the Berlin Wall and the terrorist attacks on New York’s Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, an attack that ushered in the 21st century spreading terror instead of hope. Based on a digital archive comprising around 250,000 text and audiovisual documents amassed by the artist from the internet, the piece raises questions around the changes that the disappearance of the communist bloc has caused in capitalist or, as the artist defines them, post-capitalist societies. Paradoxically, opposite the hope of co-existence that was initially interpreted with the destruction of the Wall, the events of 1989 and 2001 have given rise to enhanced militarisation, with an ever-growing number of obstacles, not simply physical, erected in many States around the world.
