In this interview, Martín Domínguez Ruz focuses attention on the figure and career of his father, the architect Martín Domínguez Esteban (Donostia-San Sebastián, 1897 – New York, 1970), whose documentary archive he donated to the Museo Reina Sofía in 2021. Part of the so-called Generation of ‘25, Domínguez Esteban trained at Madrid’s School of Architecture and in the 1920s teamed up with Carlos Arniches to give form to some of the salient constructions in Spain at that time, following the parameters of modern architecture. His staunch democratic convictions saw him being targeted by the Nationalist Faction, and after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War he was exiled to Cuba, where he remained until the victory of Castro’s Revolution. In 1960, he moved to New York, where he lectured at Cornell University until his death.
