Campo Cerrado (Closed Field), which takes its title from an eponymous novel by Max Aub, is a review of Spanish art during the complex 1940s, a period that has received scant attention. Despite their importance for the formation of modern sensibility in Spain, these years remain in a critical and historiographic vacuum.
The exhibition begins at the end of the Civil War and goes up to the early 1950s, when there are already many glimpses of the start of a new cycle. The show takes an analytical approach to the Spanish art and culture of the period through paintings, sculptures, works on paper, photographs, film, materials related to the theatre and architecture of the period, journals, and abundant documentary and graphic material.
