The Museo Reina Sofía welcomes Kenyan novelist and essayist Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o (1938), one of the strongest voices in international and African literature and in the critical analysis of systems of thought tied to neocolonialism. Regarded as one of the pre-eminent contemporary writers and with a biography centred on the fight against cultural and political imperialism, wa Thiong'o will discuss ‘minority’ forms of literature in this conversation. The Museo Reina Sofía presents a performance lecture and poetry recital on gaucho poetry and its relationship to contemporary music, conducted by Argentinian musician Martín Bauer. This literary genre is one of the most original phenomena in Río de la Plata literature, with its influence enduring for over a hundred years in Argentinian humanities, giving rise to variants and offshoots while also leaving its mark on European genres such as opera and musical theatre.
